Cellular jail also known as kala pani(black water) in Andaman islands holds lot of sentiments for us Indians. this was the place where our freedom fighters were jailed and hanged by the britishers.
these prisons has seen few famous freedom fighters like Batukeshwar Dutt and Veer Savarkar, among others. this prison is a symbol of freedom struggle in india.
this prison was constructed between 1896-1906 this prison has 7 wings and all these wings are connected to a central building.. sadly now three wings had to be demolished due to natural calamities but a hospital has been built in the place of those three wings.
if u visit the andaman jail you can witness the light and sound show where they explain and help u understand the story behind this jail and freedom struggle. and these prisons were built with such perfection that every prisoner was isolated from the other and no two prisoner stayed in the same cell at a time.
