Mandya is known as the sugar town and they have one of the largest production for sugar. every village in mandya has at least 2 kabbina halu mane a very small setup in a hut or small house where they extract the sugarcane juice and prepare jaggery.

Diwali is a very grand festival celebrated by indians. few people celebrate diwali by giving prayers to goddess laxmi and few give their prayers to goddess kali(another avatar of goddess durga).

for indians it also know as festival of light where every individual light lamps of different kinds at their homes and prepare sweets and distribute and celebrate with their dear ones and neighbors. during this festival we can also see the fireworks that takes place constantly for 2 days. but fireworks these days seemed to reduce as people are getting more sensible and are going green.

   Durgo pujo/durgotsava is the main festival for the people of north east it is widely celebrated in west bengal, assam, bihar, jharkand, odisha and tripura. this festival starts on the 6th day of karthik month and ends on the 10th day of month karthik.

durgo pujo is just not the biggest festival but it is also the biggest socio cultural event for bengali’s. these days durgo pujo is celebrated throughout india bengali communities come together in different parts and organize this event together.

bengaluru(karnataka) alone conducts about 30-40 puja’s at different parts of the town. The importance of Durga Puja increased gradually during the British Raj in Bengal. After the Hindu reformists identified Durga with India, she became an icon for the Indian independence movement.

maa(mother) durga had killed the evil mahisasoora a demon who terrorized earth during the age of gods as he had an unique power that no male shall hold the strength to kill him so the male gods turned towards maa durga for seeking help they shared their power with her in order to help her kill the demon. the dramatic story is been played every year on tv during mohalaya..

this festival is celebrated along with lots cultural activities like sports, music, dance, food and etc etc.

this festival is celebrated for 5 days and on the last day the idol is taken for immersion.
